Mejor echa un vistazo al artículo de guia ubuntu: http://www.guia-ubuntu.org/index.php?title=GRUB salu2 Lo primero que ves cuando editas grub.cfg es el siguiente texto:

Por lo cual, no es correcto el cambiar la configuración editando este archivo.
